In this paper, based on the concept of vibration waves' guiding and suppression, we present mechanisms that can guide the vibration wave in the reverse direction and apply these mechanisms to design a reverse guided structure for vibration suppression system. The related dynamic equations are derived. Both the frequency responses and the transient responses are conducted from the dynamic model. The simulation results are good in showing the characteristics of the mechanism and the designed system of a reverse guided structure for vibration suppression. After observing the effects of system parameter variation on the performance of vibration suppression, we conclude some design guidelines for implementation in future design references.

Key Words: Guided vibration suppression • reverse guided structure (RGS) • vibration suppression systems • reversing cylinders.
